Scheitenhauer House
The house is named after its former owner, butcher Peter Scheitenhauer from Fulnek. He was one of the rich townsmen who wanted to be like the nobility and so bought titles and coats of arms. Mr Scheitenhauer did the same. In 1583, he had the nobleman's house in the neighbourhood of the castle rebuilt and planted his coat of arms in the wall.
The house also entered history because of an unfortunate event. In 1612, the wife of the then owner, Ludmila Melichark, was executed, allegedly for forging money. In reality, however, the poor woman was guilty of infidelity. She fell in love with a fraudulent dealer of fake coins, Kaspar Roth, and disguised as a man and helped him out of Brno prison.
Nowadays, the ground floor of the building houses a bookstore with a café.
