History of the current cinema building May
On April 22, 1930, the city council approved the purchase of the old malt house of the Siegfried Herz brewery, which stood on the site of the current cinema. The building was demolished and construction of the new building began at the end of August of the same year according to plans by the Viennese architect Leo Kammel. The cinema was built by the construction company Czeike & Wondra from Nový Jičín. The work was completed in December and the finished work was handed over to the public at the first film screening held on 25 December 1930. A year later, Nový Jičín experienced another significant milestone in the history of cinema. From 20 to 23 February, the town cinema screened the first sound film "Der unsterbliche Lump" (The Immortal Lump). After 1945, the building continued to serve its purpose and after several repairs and technical improvements, it continues to serve today's demanding audiences.
The current capacity of the cinema is 455 seats, 287 of which are located on the ground floor and the remaining 168 on the two balconies. The cinema is also used for lectures, concerts and seminars.
