Masaryk Square
It is said that Nový Jičín's square is one of the most beautiful north of the Alps. This statement is also confirmed by the award of the Most Beautiful Square in the Czech Republic, which Masaryk Square won in 2015.
The square combines the architecture of several centuries. The regular square outline of the square was imprinted on this place by its founders. At first glance, visitors are enchanted by the picturesque arcades on the ground floor of the townhouses, which in the past served as places for merchants. From here, one could enter the mazahaus - houses which in many cases had the privilege of shenk law and in the past also served as inns. The construction of the arcade began after the fire of 1503, which destroyed the original wooden houses. The Renaissance and Baroque houses that grew in their place in the second half of the 16th century were destroyed by another major fire in the 18th century. Subsequent rebuilding was already influenced by classicism and historicism.
