Anton Kolig

Anton Kolig

A painter born in 1886 in Nový Jičín. His works are still regularly exhibited, mainly in Austrian galleries, but also in other prestigious galleries. Several of them are owned by the Museum of Novojičínsko, and his ceiling painting in the church in Kunín is well known. After World War I, he was one of the founders of the so-called Nötsch School. His expressionism was a thorn in the side of Nazi ideologues, who had many of his works destroyed. He received offers to lecture at academies in Prague, Karlsruhe, and Stuttgart, where he worked for 15 years. Tapestries designed by Kolig adorn one of the rooms of the world's most famous music venue in Salzburg.
