Tourist information center Of Nový Jičín

The green oasis of the town, Smetana's Orchards, was created in 1915 by the soldiers. The granite sculpture near the entrance to the former summer cinema symbolises the laws of heredity. The centre of the monument is a bust of Johann Gregor Mendel, a native of nearby Hynčice. The author of the 1931 monument commemorating the world-famous founder of genetics is the Silesian sculptor Josef Obeth. On the other side of the park is a bust of the composer Bedřich Smetana from 1962. The park also has two playgrounds, a reading corner and a relaxation area with a water area.
