The town of Odry is approximately 20 kilometres from Nový Jičín. Its historical centre is a town conservation area. It consists of a square with Renaissance houses and a neoclassical fountain from 1897, the work of local native Emil Zimmerman. Part of the conservation area is a medieval fortification with a bastion from the 15th century, which can be found on Pásová Street.
The most important historical monument is the original Gothic church of St. Bartholomew, rebuilt in 1691-1692. The tower houses the oldest Moravian bell from 1374 and the interior is decorated with a reconstructed organ. Among the natural attractions is a system of Odry ponds, which is part of a nature reserve.
In nearby Spálov you can visit the pilgrimage site of the Virgin Mary in the Rock - a spring of water springs from the rock, which, according to legend, miraculously cured a wounded soldier during the Thirty Years' War.
The Flaschar Mine is located near the Oder. This historic mine dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when the shale industry boomed in the Low Jeseník region. At the end of the 19th century, the statistics of Silesian industry list 52 active plants engaged in the extraction and processing of slate. In the locality of Nový Svět near Odry, where the Flaschar mine is also located, 7 defunct shale mines are recorded.
The local region is especially promising for cross-country skiing, for which the terrain here is ideal.
