Hukvaldy
Through Rybí, Štramberk and Kopřivnice we will go to Hukvaldy - the birthplace of the world-renowned composer Leoš Janáček. You can visit his memorial and his birth house, which houses an information centre.
The ruins of Hukvaldy Castle are a dominant and popular tourist attraction. It was founded around 1230. Originally a Gothic castle, it is one of the largest ruins in Europe. It is only accessible on foot through a game preserve where forest animals such as mouflon and fallow deer run free. Along the way, you can also admire the beautiful old oak trees and enjoy the wonderful tranquillity. Occasionally, concerts are held in the local amphitheatre. The preserve is dominated by a bronze statue of the fox Bystrouška, reminiscent of Janáček's first opera. According to legend, anyone who touches the fox's tail will have a wish come true.
The castle itself is a frequent tourist destination. Concerts, fencing performances and other events focusing mainly on history are held here. From the gallery of the castle palace, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding area, especially the Beskydy Mountains and the Beskydy Mountains Lachian Gate, of which Hukvaldy is a part.
