Death room
“I am quickly approaching the end of my life and I will not have the fortune to see the face of Your Majesty again,” he wrote to Emperor Leopold from Nový Jičín. On 12th July he fell ill with pneumonia and the next day he was visited by his friends.
On 14th July Laudon slept for a long while. He thanked the residents of Nový Jičín, who he had heard were praying for him. Towards the evening, shortly before seven O’ clock he woke and asked for his pillow to be raised. He lifted himself up and died at that very moment.
