Mayor Hans Kleppel's merka from 1570
Townhouse on Masaryk Square No. 14
Sandstone fragment of the right part of the portal with a label from the closed entrance to the former brick house no. 14. Kam 79, 513/2001. The torso of the portal measures 20.5 x 88 x 24 cm.
In the Renaissance plate is an incised merka in the form of a left-facing four with a crossbar on an elongated shaft, surmounted by the incised initials H K. On the heraldic left side of the plate two numerals of the year - 70.
Hans Kleppel held the office of mayor of Nový Jičín in 1560, 1563 and 1584. As a councillor, he was the leader of the New Evangelical disaffected against the Bishop of Olomouc Stanislav Pavlovský (1579-1598) in 1582. The house No. 14 belonged to the Schenkerian houses and later served as a travel inn called "U zlatého orla" (At the Golden Eagle). In 1879 the house was bought by the famous restaurateur Hermann Schuster, who built the prominent "Hotel Schuster". After two reconstructions in 1880 and 1890, the house was demolished in 1914 and rebuilt from the ground up in its present form, today the headquarters of the Czech Insurance Company.
