Laudon’s codes
Private! Welcome to the battlefield. You have the honour, just like General Ernst Gideon Laudon, to prove your courage – and your wits – to the Imperial Army.
For every military cipher you manage to decipher, you will be promoted to a higher military rank. The most successful among you will also receive imperial honours and decorations.
Our lands are plagued by attacks from the Turks, who seek to win the battle through ruthless violence and bloodshed. However, anyone who wishes to rise to the highest ranks of the Imperial Army of Her Majesty Empress Maria Theresa must, above all, arm themselves with wit and sharpness of mind.
If you manage to decipher all the military ciphers, you will rise to the highest ranks in the Imperial Army. Your task will be to discover and obtain all the decorations of the Imperial Grand Cross and, through this, ultimately solve the mysterious puzzle. Only then can you triumph and receive your well-deserved reward.
Rules of the game:
1. You may enter the battlefield (General Laudon Exhibition, Hat Exhibition) on presentation of a valid exhibition ticket, which you can obtain from the Imperial Army General Staff (TIC reception).
2. Your equipment for battle consists of neither rifles nor swords, but a sharp mind, a pencil and a game leaflet
(TIC reception).
3. The game sheet contains a total of 14 codes. Work through them one by one. If you manage to crack a code, you’ll find a word clue beneath it that will lead you to a military decoration – the Imperial Grand Cross.
4. On each Grand Cross you’ll find two numbers. The first determines the position of the word in the final secret word. The second number determines the position of the letter from the deciphered code that forms the secret word. Copy them onto the game sheet. Leave the Grand Crosses in place, undamaged.
5. The military codes and the hidden locations of the Grand Crosses are strictly confidential! Do not reveal them to anyone!
6. If you manage to decipher all 14 codes, find all 14 Grand Crosses using the clues, and finally work out the final 14-letter secret word, go and report it to the General Staff of the Imperial Army (the TIC reception). There you will receive your well-deserved reward and honours.
