The town of Nový Jičín is situated in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic, in a picturesque basin on the southern edge of the Moravian Gate. It is situated on the left bank of the Jičín River, on the eastern side it is close to the Podbeskydské hills. The Jičína river and the Grasmanka stream flow through the town.

Nový Jičín is characterised by its architectural monuments, especially the square square with an arcade and the historic Renaissance house Stará pošta (Old Post Office), Žerotín Castle and a rich Czech-German history. The historic centre of the town is a municipal conservation area. In 2001 it was named Historic Town of the Year.
